Snoezelen
A Dutchman by the name of Barry Emons can be named the inventor of snoezelen, He discovered that mentally and physically impaired persons are lacking sensory input to the brain. He developed special equipment to fill this gap of sensory input, and thus by observation discovered that it had great results in output as well. The concentration period extends so more skills can be learned; the motoric development is stimulated and the interest in the surroundings is more alert. In other words, our sensory input is created by our senses: hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting and touching. This input to the brain by our senses has effect on our motoric output as movements and our mental output like our mood.

Therapeutic swimming
The White and Yellow Cross Foundation recognizes the benefit of swimming with mentally/physically challenged persons.
To understand the reason why swimming is so beneficial to the clients of The White and Yellow Cross Foundation we ask you to imagine yourself, almost weightless, floating in water that surrounds you. Some nice soft music or nature sounds in the background and safe, pleasant surroundings. You feel very relaxed, and stress abandons you. Standing in water doing fast movements and exercises to strengthen your body feels good and relaxes the mind. Keeping this in mind it becomes clear what general objectives you would like to achieve while swimming or doing water activities with mentally/physically challenged persons.
